Wow, after a wait of almost a month, I've received a package of monsters in the mail.
They come from Suzie Garner who is an art teacher at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado, USA.

Suzie writes, "I gave this as an assignment to my sketchbook students. I gave them the cards and I told my students that I would pay the postage on their submissions if they wanted to participate. They have the option of keeping them too. Most of my students are typical college age around 21 to 23 I think. They tend to be at least 21 in that class since there are some prerequisites to get into the course. So they are juniors and seniors typically. The class itself is called "ARTS 360 Sketchbook"

The first submission is Suzie's own, followed by a selection of works that she sent me as email attachments. These are the cards that her students decided to keep I think, as they were not in the envelope I received today. I will scan the cards that arrived in the post and upload them over the course of the week.

I saw The Death Set at The Railway earlier this year, it was one of the smallest turn-outs I've ever seen at a gig but the band gave it absolutely everything and it was a brilliant night. I defy you not to be singing this for days after you've listened to it a couple of times. Great vid too.

Here are a couple of prints that I have done with the lino cut I previously used for rubbings in gallery 96. I printed them with acrylic paints and tidied them up with a Sharpie, the paint gave some interesting textures but overall I think I prefer the effect I got using the lino cuts for rubbings.

I've got a feeling my initial guess about the card in gallery 97 being a leg was spot on because this sure looks like it's partner.
Once the whole collection has made it's appearance, I will photograph the lot together and post them to a gallery of their own.

David, this one intrigues me because I'm not sure what I'm looking at. It looks like flames at the bottom and them almost looks like a green knee hanging out of a torn black drainpipe jeans leg. Forgive my ignorance but the more I look at it, the more it sucks me in. Leave a comment and let me know how far out I am with my interpretation, and even if I have published your card the correct way up as I have just turned it over and it looks like flaming buildings now.
Anybody else care to leave their opinions please do, it may be that I am missing the blindingly obvious!

Sometimes an envelope comes in and when I open it, the art inside blows me away. Never more so than the package I received yesterday from Mr Cavin, in Washington DC, USA.
Everything about the contents oozed class, so I've not only published the four cards that Mr Cavin drew but everything else that came with it. All illustrations are in ink.

Here are the extra details that made the package so enjoyable.
The first two are protective backers that held the cards safely in transit. Does V.F. stand for Victor Frankenstein?

This is a drawing that was on the greetings card that Mr Cavin wrote his message on.

And finally, even the envelope was beautifully illustrated

Mr Cavin wrote that he has been following "A Patchwork Of Flesh" since about gallery 14 when he was traveling in Southern Vietnam, making it difficult to send an entry himself. He put the project off until his return to the States and has spent weeks producing these pieces of art.
A big thanks to him for the time and effort he has obviously put into them, I'm sure you'll all agree it was time well spent and that the results are gorgeous.

I will be exhibiting the two Frankenstein Monster paintings below at an art exhibition at Tiffins Bar and Restaurant in Southend on Sunday 20 September from 12-6pm.

I will also be running a "Patchwork Of Flesh" workshop for anyone who wants to come and create a Frank card, all card and materials provided.

This will hopefully give me some new cards to upload here as new submissions have slowed down dramatically recently. So come on people get scribbling, we need some new monsters to gawp at.

Here's a real treat for everyone, today's beautiful pencil portrait is by Tony DiTerlizzi.

Tony is an American fantasy artist, children's book creator, and motion picture producer.
He created The Spiderwick Chronicles series with Holly Black, and was an executive producer on the 2008 film adaptation of the series. He won a Caldecott Honor Medal for his adaptation of The Spider and the Fly. In the gaming industry, he best known for his work in the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering and on the Planescape product line for the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

When I send out information about this project to people, I sometimes get asked, especially by artists and illustrators, what is in it for them. I thoroughly understand this reaction as that is how they make their living and their time is money. I try to explain that mail art is about giving your art away which not everyone is keen to do. Anyway to cut a long story short, I have uploaded the back of Wackystuff's postcard that came with his portrait. He has been giving his art away for many years and his philosophy on mail art encapsulates what "A Patchwork Of Flesh" is all about.

I discovered this on another blog today and thought I would share it in case you've missed out. It is released in the USA in October I believe, I don't reckon it will get a cinematic release in the UK.
It looks like a very affectionate homage to all things Universal in the monster department, even starring Ron Chaney, Lon Chaney Jr's grandson.

Back from a week on the very sunny Isle Of Wight, plenty of top quality Frank art waiting for me when I got home which I will share with you over the next few days.
Here is a natural monster I made on the beach using sand, seaweed and pebbles.

I bought a cool tin on Monster Bandages which you monster maniacs might appreciate, here are some photos, shame the puffy sticker free prize wasn't Frank but never mind.

Second week of the summer holidays and as usual the weather is patchy at best, so the kids need things to do. They had friends round today so we made some Frank cards.

My "Saturday Morning Monster" is a kid's cartoon monster that would have his own Saturday morning show between Spongebob and Ben 10 (Red, black and blue ballpoint pens)

He's made from photos and anatomical drawings that I remixed in Photoshop and then cut out and hand coloured with pencils.

I got an envelope full of portraits today which I'm going to drip feed you, two a day for the next five days.
They come from Craig Stephens, an artist and art teacher at Chana High School in Auburn, California. The first portrait is by Craig, the other nine are by students that he told about "A Patchwork Of Flesh". Some of the cards did not have much or any information on the back so there are not names for all of the artists, also I have made informed guesses about the media used. If any of the students involved drop by, feel free to leave your details in the comments and I will update.
This is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to receive when I set the project up, so a big thanks to Craig and his students, a very talented bunch with some very original takes on the monster .
